Minutes November 5, 2024

Attendance: 47 members in attendance and no guests.

Minutes from 9/03/2024 were approved. The next retreat is April 28 – 30th 2025. A similar project will take place.  

Retreat: There was a good turnout for the October retreat with 22 members in attendance on Tues.
As a retreat group project each attendee made one block (a disappearing 9 patch) on Tuesday and
the blocks were assembled on Wednesday to make a large comfort quilt.

New Business

Ruth M. reminded the group to be welcoming to newcomers. 

A thank you card was received from the father of recently deceased member Marsha G., expressing appreciation for support during her illness. A donation envelope was passed to collect funds in Marsha’s memory. The funds will go to Jackie V. (her aunt). 

A thank you card was also received from the Henritta Library acknowledging this year’s donation which will be used for furniture needs. 

Julie C. has three volunteers for the library display case project. Date pending. 

Holiday Charity: An envelope was passed collecting funds for Red Cross Hurricane relief designated for Western North Carolina.

Website: Lynda D. reminded members that when you reply to an email from the club, press the link (in the body of the email) to respond to the original sender. Otherwise, if you press the “reply” button it will go directly to Lynda and she will forward the reply to the original sender. Please contact Lynda if you have any questions or concerns.

Treasurer: Cathy F. states that the insurance has been paid for the year and the balance was reported.

Comfort Quilts:  17 quilts went to Coldwater House. The next recipient will Bivona and/or Mary’s Place. Labels are still available. 

22 Comfort quilts were collected today. See photo on website. 

Books, Magazines:  An assortment was made available today. Free will donations for these items are collected each time and will be donated to the library at the end of the year. 

Suggestions for where to send surplus items are welcome. 

Fabrics: A scrap exchange took place today. Leftovers will be donated.

Donations will be accepted after January for the June Fabric sale. Fabric pieces donated should be at least a fat quarter or larger and please label your piece with the size. 

Program: 

Paint Chip Challenge will be in June. Chips are still available. 

Fall Project – pumpkin wall hanging is due in June. Instructions on website. 

The Winter Project was introduced – snow man wall hanging also due in June. The pattern is one the website. 

November 19th Peggy D. will be doing the locker hooking demo. 

November 26th Sit & Sew at Jackie Lynn’s and the Town Hall. 

December 3rd Potholder Swap is due. Bring you completed potholders. They will be sealed in a brown bag and then swapped among members. 

January 7th A launch of the UFO Project. 

  1. Please print off a form from the website
  2. List 5 UFO Projects, bring five $1 bills (first one is due in Feb)
  3. Dollars are returned once projects are completed.

January 21st Kaiwandi demo By Cathy F. in the commuity room in the library. Please bring scraps to use on the project.

Sunshine Committee: No report

Holiday Luncheon:  Menu choices were made today for December 10th event. At the luncheon there will be a gift exchange (bring a gift and receive a gift).   Contact Jane M. for more information: Janemalone1958@gmail.com

Missing Item: A skein of blue yarn was accidently set down near the fabric scraps. If you picked it up, please return it at the next meeting.
