Patti Z. shared with members that the Antoinette Brown Blackwell Society of Henrietta is accepting nominations for Henrietta Woman of the Year. This award is given annually to recognize a woman who has, through non-work-related volunteer contributions, acted as a role model for the community. Any resident of Henrietta who has demonstrated leadership qualities and commitment to community service is eligible for this award. HQC member Kathleen G. is a former recipient. The form is on the website: https://antoinettebrownblackwell.org/our-programs/woman-of-the-year/
Regarding the possibility of an HQC quilt show; Cathy F. reports that per the director of the Rush Library, they cannot accommodate a quilt showthis year due to water damage from the sprinkler system. The Rush Library will be ready after January 2026. The HQC voted in the past that we would not have a show in the same year as the Genesee Valley Quilt Club (May 2026). The prospect of a HQC show will be explored at a future meeting.
Sandra A. brought the group a suggestion for a Christmas Charity this year. Common Ground Health is an organization that focuses on community health issues. Per a recent newspaper article, they are collecting a variety of comfort items for nursing home residents including socks, toiletries, lap quilts, etc.. Jean M suggests members make drawstring bags to hold donations to individuals. Currently, there is no Christmas Charity Coordinator. Patti Z. offers to volunteer for the project if a second member volunteers to work with her. Please consider volunteering and contact Patti Z.
