Meeting Minutes April 9, 2024

Attendance: 35 members in attendance, no guests.  April birthdays were acknowledged.

Minutes from 3/5/2024 were accepted with no changes.

Announcements: Former member Mary S recently lost her husband.  A copy of the obituary noting a designated charity was circulated.

While a number of changes were made to March & April meetings, May & June business/program meetings are back on the 23/24 schedule previously distributed.

A Sit & Sew was added on 4/16 (location Library Craft Room or Jackie Lynn’s-$5 fee), there will not be a Sit & Sew on 4/30.

The Library has invited us to decorate one or both of the display cases in the Lobby.  Julie C will investigate potential dates & coordinate project volunteers if a suitable date is found.

The Fantastic Four Shop Hop takes place 4/11-4/13.  Shops include the Village Quilt Shop, Jackie Lynn’s, Fluffy’s, and Sadies.

The following positions are vacant after June: President/Co-President, Program/Project Coordinator (2 people), Book/Magazine Coordinator, Fabric Coordinator.  Position descriptions are available and there is some latitude for volunteers to modify activities.  For meetings to continue after June, volunteers are needed, especially for President as that position schedules the meetings.  The final date on the calendar is a Sit & Sew on June 25, there are no meetings after that date.

Treasurer:  no report

Membership: Annual membership fees are accepted now through June, forms were available.

Website: no report

Retreat:  The Spring Retreat takes place 4/29 – 5/1, payment is requested this week.  Please see Chris B. to make payment arrangements.  If you are a day participant, please advise which day you will attend.  Attendees expressed appreciation for Chris’ efforts coordinating the retreats.

Books, Magazines, & Fabric: An assortment of books & magazines were available in addition to fabrics that remained after the June 2023 picnic.  Donations for these three items help support the club as we generate no income and membership fees are insufficient to cover annual expenses.  Please consider selecting some items on offer.  In addition, fabric is now being collected for this year’s picnic.

Comfort Quilts:   20 quilts were collected.  Labels are available from Carol M or Marlene C.

Sunshine: Please notify Zoe S. if you know a member who would appreciate support.

Program:  Completed projects were displayed.  Information for the Red, White, & Blue Table Runner is on the website and is the final project for the year.  Options for finishing a table runner or wall hanging without binding were mentioned.  If you are interested in trying an alternative,  consider viewing the tutorial  “Facing a Quilt – Alternative to Binding” by Kendall Taylor on You Tube.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVhjWIS7Gqo In addition to the Table Runner members are encouraged to complete one or both of the challenge quilts; 1) a panel quilt (for donation if possible), 2) a 2-color wall hanging or quilt.

A paper piecing class will take place at the 4/23 Sit & Sew Town Hall location,  sign up sheet  circulated.  A firm head count is needed to ensure a sufficient number of paper patterns are available.  The fabric requirements and suggested supplies list is posted on the website.

Show & Tell:  Quilts were displayed & photographed for the website gallery.

Presentation:  Beth D displayed a variety of Crazy Quilts and reviewed their interesting history including various construction methods, influences, symbolism, fabric selections, embellishments, and special embroidery stitches.  “My Crazy Dream” by Mary Ricard on display at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln, Nebraska was in progress from 1877 through 1912!

The next Business Meeting is May 7 at the Henrietta Library, special guest Karen Miller from Red Bird Quilt Company.

Meeting adjourned.
