  • The binding fabric will always be 1/4″ narrower than the flange fabric. Choose fabrics that are contrasting. 
  • Measure around your quilt to get the length your binding needs to be, plus about 20 inches for mitering corners and seam. 
  • Cut binding strips and sew together with diagonal seam. Cut flange strips and sew together with diagonal seams. 
  • Sew binding strip to flange strip offsetting seams to reduce bulk.
  • Fold strips in half and press trying to make the flange a nice even edge.
  • Sew binding to back of quilt mitering corners being careful binding seams are not at quilt corners. (Binding fabric next to backing fabric.)
  • Bring binding to front and stitch in the ditch. Thread color should match flange.
