Mystery Quilt 2022 Clue #3

2022 Henrietta Quilt Club Mystery Quilt. Clue #3

I’m repeating the design options and Fabric info from clue 1.

Quilt color design options:

Option 1 – Traitional.  You pick out 2 feature fabrics and 2 background fabrics.

Option 2 – Controlled Scrappy -a little risky, but you’re still in control.

Option 3 – Wild and Scrappy -a walk on the wild side

Fabric(s) A:  (2 yards) This is the primary focus fabric

  • Option 1 – Use the same fabric throughout the quilt
  • Option 2 – Coordinate the same fabric 4x within the block.
  • Option 3 – Anything goes!  Go wild and scrappy.

Fabric(s) B:  (¾ yard) This is the secondary focus fabric

  • Option 1 – Use the same fabric throughout the quilt
  • Option 2  and 3 – Use the same fabrics throughout the block.  It looks best if it contrasts with feature fabric 1

Fabric(s) C: 1 yard.  This is the primary background fabric.  Choose either light or dark fabric/scraps and use the same value throughout the quilt

  • Option 1 – Use the same fabric throughout the quilt
  • Option 2 – Use the same fabric throughout the block.
  • Option 3 – Use multiple fabrics with the same value

Fabric(s) D:  ⅝ yard – This is the secondary background fabric. Pick out something that complements feature fabric 1 and contrasts with feature fabric 2.

  • Option 1 – Use the same fabric throughout the quilt
  • Option 2 – Use the same fabric throughout the block.
  • Option 3 – Use multiple fabrics with the same value

Third (and last) clue.

  • Block assembly:
  1. The square units from clue 1 have have primary fabric A angled towards the center of the block
  2. Primary fabric B will form a plus sign in the middle of the block
  • Sew the units in the top row together, repeat for the bottom row.
  • Sew the rows of the block together.
  •  Assemble the quilt.  The layout is 5 blocks across and 7 blocks down.  Sew the blocks into rows, then sew the rows together.

Here is what my top looks like:

It’s a little wilder and crazier than I expected, but I love it.  The block is called X plus.
